چکیده
In this paper, we estimate the dimension of a global attractor for a nonclassical hyperbolic equation with a viscoelastic damping term in Hilbert spaces H2 0 × L2 and D(A) × H2 0 , where D(A) = {v ∈ H2 0 | Av ∈ L2} and A = ∆2. We obtain an explicit formula of the upper bound of the dimension of the attractor. The obtained dimension decreases as damping grows and is uniformly bounded for large damping, which conforms to physical intuition.

Global attractor for a nonlocal hyperbolic problem on ${mathcal{R}}^{N}$
We consider the quasilinear Kirchhoff's problem$$ u_{tt}-phi (x)||nabla u(t)||^{2}Delta u+f(u)=0 ,;; x in {mathcal{R}}^{N}, ;; t geq 0,$$with the initial conditions $ u(x,0) = u_0 (x)$ and $u_t(x,0) = u_1 (x)$, in the case where $N geq 3, ; f(u)=|u|^{a}u$ and $(phi (x))^{-1} in L^{N/2}({mathcal{R}}^{N})cap L^{infty}({mathcal{R}}^{N} )$ is a positive function. The purpose of our work is to ...
متن کاملOptimal order finite element approximation for a hyperbolic integro-differential equation
Semidiscrete finite element approximation of a hyperbolic type integro-differential equation is studied. The model problem is treated as the wave equation which is perturbed with a memory term. Stability estimates are obtained for a slightly more general problem. These, based on energy method, are used to prove optimal order a priori error estimates.
متن کاملA posteriori $ L^2(L^2)$-error estimates with the new version of streamline diffusion method for the wave equation
In this article, we study the new streamline diffusion finite element for treating the linear second order hyperbolic initial-boundary value problem. We prove a posteriori $ L^2(L^2)$ and error estimates for this method under minimal regularity hypothesis. Test problem of an application of the wave equation in the laser is presented to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the method.
متن کاملA note on the dimension of the global attractor for an abstract semilinear hyperbolic problem
We study a semilinear hyperbolic problem, written as a second order evolution equation in an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. Assuming existence of the global attractor, we estimate its fractal dimension explicitly in terms of the data. Despite its elementary character, our technique gives reasonable results. Notably, we require no additional regularity, although the nonlinear damping is all...
متن کاملTopological dimension of singular - hyperbolic attractors
An attractor is a transitive set of a flow to which all positive orbit close to it converges. An attractor is singular-hyperbolic if it has singularities (all hyperbolic) and is partially hyperbolic with volume expanding central direction [16]. The geometric Lorenz attractor [6] is an example of a singular-hyperbolic attractor with topological dimension ≥ 2. We shall prove that all singular-hyp...
